“The 1st Stendaler-Hanse-Cup”, 1-2 June 2012, Stendal/Germany

Decathlon has always been one of the most emotional events in track&field. Still, the booming field of masters-athletics, despite a very active multi-event community, does not offer high level competitions for serious athletes to prepare for the international championships. And even at international championships, inevitably the conditions for multi-events - including the sheer amount of contestants with timetables often ending a competition well past midnight as well as spread out venues - are often adverse to good results.

Ideal conditions and competitive fields
The organizers of the international Stendaler-Hanse-Cup are aiming to fill this void with a completely new type of masters decathlon/heptathlon. The objectives for this meet are dense starter fields, outstanding international competition and ideal conditions under the international WMA rules. In Stendal, competitive starter fields and tight competition in the heats are enabled by reducing the age-brackets into two classes. The first class are athletes from 30 to 49 (M/W30) and the second group are all athletes of the age of 50 and over (M/W50). Furthermore, the cross-age classes create an additional attraction with the best athletes of the classic age-brackets competing against each other directly, for the first time. Within the two classes, the results are scored according to the internationally accepted WMA-age-factors. This enables a direct comparison between the athletes and ensures compatibility with international statistics and record lists. In order to create athlete friendly timetables and competitive heats, the number of starters is limited to the best 30 decathletes and heptathletes of each class.

Long term sponsors for a long term view

Since a venue like this has to grow and develop, it is planned to take place in Stendal for the long term, such as successful multi-event meets in Ratingen or Goetzis. This is also necessary in order to grow stable relations to sponsors and find a set place in the calendar of master athletes around the world as an ideal preparation for the international championships. So the first Stendal-Hanse-Cup takes place on 01. / 02. June 2013. It is the goal of the organizers, lead by experienced Siggi Wille of Stendaler LV and supported by EVAA honorary president Dieter Massin to win the worlds best masters athletes for the "Stendaler-Hanse-Cup“.
